LUMINARIES & CAROLING
Monday, December 16
Dear Woodland Avenue & Ormewood Park Neighbors,
It’s that time of year! Join us again this holiday season as we light up Woodland Avenue between Moreland and United with luminaries. We’ve also heard excitement from other streets who want to join the fun. Everyone is encouraged to participate! Feel free to share this information.
On the evening of Monday, December 16, at 6:30PM we encourage all residents along Woodland Avenue and surrounding streets to place white paper bag lanterns along the perimeter of their street-facing property to form a continuous line of light.
To accompany the festive adornment of the neighborhood, there will be hot cider and caroling beginning outside the Fellowship Hall of Ormewood Church, 1071 Delaware Ave SE, at 7PM. Carolers will then travel up and down Woodland Avenue amidst the lights to spread cheer from house to house. All are invited and encouraged to join in the festivities! A link to the downloadable songbook will be provided the day of the event on our homepage.
Ormewood Church will be selling luminary kits. All donations from the kit sales this year will go towards that beautiful big new parking lot. We've loved watching y'all learn to ride bikes, play games, and gather with friends out there.
All your luminary questions are answered below!
WHAT ARE LUMINARIES?
A luminary is a white paper lunch sack weighted by sand and containing a tea candle. Luminaries are placed side-by-side, about 2 feet apart, along the street-facing perimeter of a property to create a festive evening glow.
HOW MANY DO I NEED?
As a general guide, each luminary should be placed approximately 2 feet or so apart along the curb of your street-facing property. Those with particularly long stretches of sidewalk, or those wanting to decorate walkways or porches in addition to the curb, may want to consider purchasing larger quantities of luminary kits. Our goal is to light up Woodland Avenue between Moreland Avenue and E. Confederate Avenue with one continuous row of light!
HOW DO I ORDER LUMINARIES?
We're offering 4 different options for luminary kits: 10 ($10), 20 ($20), 30 ($25), or 50 ($40). The luminary kits consist of white paper lunch sacks, a scoop of sand to weigh down each paper sack, and a tea light candle to place on top of the sand within each luminary bag.
We're also offering an optional $5 delivery fee this year if you do not want to pick yours up. They'll be delivered to your door Sunday, December 15.
Online purchases will be open until Sunday, December 8, HERE. After you purchase online, we'll follow up via email within the week to ensure we have your correct order.
You can also purchase via check by dropping your check, with amount of luminary packets, name, and address attached, in the mail slot of the church's green sanctuary door on Delaware Avenue.
